The Federal-style Boone's Lick Trail Inn, a bed and breakfast, can trace its history indirectly to Daniel Boone.

The Federal-style Boone's Lick Trail Inn, a bed and breakfast, can trace its history indirectly to Daniel Boone. His sons, operators of a salt manufacturing company, helped create the Old Indian Trail in the early 1800s to help serve their business. The road became a well-used settlers' trail, and the Carter-Rice building - now the B&B - was constructed along the route in 1820. The Boone legacyeventually was honored when the route was renamed the Boone Lick Trail.

The Boone's Lick Trail Inn is also along the Lewis and Clark route and within the riverfront historic district of St. Charles, a favorite day trip destination for St. Louisans.

Children are welcome here - they rave about the cozy Attic Loft, up two flights of stairs at the top of the inn. All rooms are simply but creatively decorated, and many have lovely four-poster beds. During special town events, a two-night stay may be required.
