The Doris I. Schnuck Children’s Garden at the Missouri Botanical Garden is reopening just in time for spring! Get outside and enjoy family activities throughout opening weekend. Join us as we “spring” into action with two fun-filled days of hands-on activities. Have a fun-filled adventure exploring all of the wonders the Children’s Garden has to offer, including a waterfall, steamboat, cave, rope bridges, tree house and other amenities designed to instill an appreciation for plants and nature through play. Celebrate spring with two fun-filled days of special family activities:

  • Pot-A-Plant: Time to get a jump on that spring garden. Visit the potting station in the Edible Garden and select a plant to get a start on your planting: cabbage, spinach, or anise hyssop.
  • Take the Pledge/Seek and Find: Ever wondered if you have seen every place in the Children’s Garden? This is your chance explore the Children’s Garden from top to bottom on your own riddle-filled nature adventure.
  • Build Playgrounds for Plants: Some plants need support to grow tall and strong, and you can help us build the structures that will support our plants in the Edible Garden this year. Practice your outdoor skills by learning to build lattices—with just a couple of knots and some bamboo, you can build what our plants need to grow.
  • Get the Dirt on Dirt!: Want to get the dirt on dirt? Get your hands dirty as we dig deep into the different kinds of soils that Missouri plants call home, and learn about what makes the stuff beneath your feet so neat!
  • Nature Journals: Start your observations of nature early! Spring is the perfect time to watch the natural world wake up. Record all the fun things you see in your new nature journal.
  • Toad Abode: Build a place to attract toads to your garden. This fun home not only attracts amphibians but it also dresses up your garden or yard.
  • Finn-tastic Face Painting: From tots to teens and those in between, who doesn’t love face painting? Visit with volunteers while getting some snazzy spring-inspired cheek art!
