Family Firefly Nights
*The event has already taken place on this date: Fri, 07/07/2023
Firefly populations are shrinking. For this program, we will team up with the National Audubon Society to collect data that will help scientists learn about the geographic distribution of fireflies and what factors impact their numbers.
Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.
During this free family event, participants will:
· Watch a short, interactive presentation on fireflies
· Participate in firefly themed crafts and activities
· Spread blankets out in the micro forest and each family will be given a record sheet to count the fireflies they see together. We will collect this data and submit it to the Audubon database.

When families engage in citizen science together it teaches little ones that science is a valuable activity and allows them to see themselves as scientists.
