Friday Night Public Stargazing | Kids Out and About St. Louis

Friday Night Public Stargazing

On a clear night, bring your family, scout group, or organization to the Broemmelsiek Park Astronomy Viewing Area, 1615 Schwede Road in Defiance, to discover stars and constellations in the night sky through the largest public-viewing telescope in Missouri and other complex telescopes. These educational Friday Night Public Stargazing events are free and are hosted by members of the Astronomical Society of Eastern Missouri (ASEM). Stargazing begins 30 minutes past sunset and can last into the night; social distancing is required.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email so we can update it immediately.

During Friday Night Public Stargazing events, guests ages 7 and up and at least 48-inches tall are invited to climb to the top of the 32-inch Dobsonian telescope to view deep-space objects in the sky, such as distant galaxies, the Great Orion Nebula (M42), globular star clusters, a Supernova Remnant (M1) and so much more! When using this massive and powerful scope, objects in the sky will appear brighter and with more clarity and detail. Other high-powered telescopes focusing on different constellations and stars in the sky will be available for viewing as well.
