SNIA works closely with elected officials, police and other community leaders to better the quality of life in the Shaw Neighborhood. Plus, we market the neighborhood to potential residents, through community events.

The Shaw Neighborhood is made up of beautiful St. Louis vernacular architecture and over 8,000 neighbors who are active and passionate about the place they call home.

Shaw Neighborhood Improvement Association

The Shaw Neighborhood Improvement Association (SNIA) is a non-profit organization that was incorporated in 1975. The corporation is managed by an Executive Committee and governed by the Board of Directors. The Board of Directors is comprised of elected representatives of each block in the Shaw Neighborhood - this large network of block captains ensures that every voice is heard and every resident is represented. The Board of Directors meet every other month at the SNIA office (4103 Shenandoah Ave). The bylaws of the SNIA can be downloaded here.

The 2013 Executive Committee was elected at the General Membership meeting on January 7th, 2013. Please don't hesitate to contact us via the phone number or email address below.

President: Lawrence Johnson
Vice President: Jeanette McDermott
Second Vice President: Denise White
Treasurer: Larry Goering
Assistant Treasurer: Fred White
Secretary: Stephanie Herbers
Assistant Secretary: Dave Reid

The SNIA serves the residents of the Shaw neighborhood by providing information, facilitating discussion, and acting on solutions. General membership meetings provide opportunities to personally interact with the Alderman, the 3rd District Police, the Neighborhood Stabilization Officer, SNIA Officers, as well as to meet and greet other residents of the community. The Chairs of each SNIA committee are present at meetings to provide updates and answer questions pertaining to committee activities. The program topics address current issues that are relevant to Shaw Neighborhood and St. Louis City. The general membership meetings are held quarterly at St. Margaret of Scotland Church basement (on 39th at Flad).

There are many opportunities to participate in the SNIA. Committees are organized to address the specific concerns of our residents, to provide the financial means for the association, or to work for the general betterment of our community. Join a committee!

Shaw also has an active and vibrant social network online at our Wordpress blog, Facebook page, Twitter feed, and on Nextdoor.
