Founded by the Fédération Mondiale du Cirque, the ninth annual World Circus Day is a unique opportunity for circuses and performers to honor the beauty and skillfulness of this classic art form as well as its growing social role and increasing prestige. This year’s celebration is especially significant as it coincides with the 250th anniversary of the founding of the modern circus.
Circus Harmony’s young performers will take part in a special World Circus Day video featuring circus schools from around the globe “passing” juggling clubs to each other. Many of these St. Louis stars will be available on April 21 to share their skills with those who want to try their hand at juggling for the first time. The World Circus Day juggling class is free with admission to the City Museum and will follow Circus Harmony’s 3 p.m. performance. Those who cannot participate on the 21st are welcome to join the organization’s Juggling Club, which meets every Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. To learn more, contact Circus Harmony at 314-436-7676.
“World Circus Day is about sharing the art of happiness as expressed through the beauty, technique and artistry of the circus,” said Jessica Hentoff, artistic and executive director of Circus Harmony and advisor to the Fédération Mondiale du Cirque board of directors. “Circus Harmony is proud to be part of such an incredible opportunity to recognize the contribution of the circus over the past 250 years.”
