Week 1: In Greek mythology, the hero, Herakles, is credited with organizing the first running races at Olympia to celebrate the completion of one of his twelve labors. In the afternoons, campers will compete in some of these ancient Olympic events, as well as devising their own and testing their strength in physical and mental hero challenges.
Week 2: In Homer’s great work, the Odyssey, clever Penelope proposes an archery contest to challenge her suitors. Great Odysseus, a skilled archer, uses the challenge to reveal his true identity and defeat the suitors. Likewise, archery plays an important role to the Greek gods, such as Cupid and Artemis. As rising young heroes, campers will spend the afternoons honing this crucial skill as well as engaging in physical and mental challenges and games.
