Marine Megafauna: Did you know that megafauna means “large” and “animal life” within an area, habitat, or period of time? Join Pacific Marine Mammal Center in learning about these larger-than-life marine mammals! Explorers will discover marine adaptations, investigate active research on these species and engineer conservation solutions.

Session I: Gray Seal - Gray seals can be found on the rocky coasts, islands, and even icebergs from the mid-Atlantic to Baltic sea. Explorers will try their flipper at analyzing field research to discover what is happening to wild populations of seals and uncover how these animals are adapted to the changing environment.

Session II: Ribbon Seal - What is black and white and striped all over? An adult Ribbon Seal! Looking at their appearance, you wouldn’t guess they live in the icy regions off the coast of Alaska. Explorers will creatively craft their own ribbon seal on pack ice and observe how these marine mammals habitat is impacted by changing climate.

Session III: Bryde’s Whale - These large whales in the rorqual family, weigh in at 90,000 pounds and 55 feet long! Bryde’s whales live in all oceans with some populations migrating with the seasons. Can you engineer a conservation solution to help these whales migrate safely?

Session IV: Dall’s Porpoise - Did you know the Dall’s Porpoise is considered one of the fastest swimmers of all small cetaceans? These swift swimming marine mammals create a "rooster tail" of water spray that is a special characteristic of the species! Explorers will make a splash and design their own “rooster tail”.
