From the earliest flying machines to the first rocket flights, this week long, hands-on program will give children a bird's eye view of the history and science of flight. Your child will build many different flying devices and explore the science of aerodynamics and flight with the help of Newton's laws. We don't stop there, though, because we're heading out of the atmosphere with a look at rockets and our Galactic neighborhood!

Creative Contraption Warning! This is a camp designed by you--the Inventor! Each day you'll be given a series of challenges which must be overcome using basic materials, simple machines, tips from the world of famous inventors, and the most important thing of all--your mind. With a little bit of ingenuity, you'll construct catapults and forts and assemble a working light saber to take home.
Description is based on full-day program. Half-day programs will not include all activities listed.

We'll start with the basics: From decoding messages to metal detector and night vision, campers have the opportunity to check out spy tech equipment and take home lots of gadgets like spy glasses! Step into the shoes of a detective as you uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis! Figure out the science of forensics in a hands-on look at crime scenes!

Roll up your sleeves, put on your makers cap, and get ready to create! This is our most hands-on camp! Who can build the strongest bridge? Can your bridge withstand the shake rattle and roll challenge? Explore the world of birds and beasts. Discover what Hooty the owl had for dinner? Kids will dissect owl pellets and reconstruct Hooty’s dinner. Enter the Mad Science chemistry lab and mix, mash, and brew concoctions! It’s a week packed with non-stop science fun!

Give your preschooler a green thumb without using paint! Campers will learn about plants by dissecting seeds, making leaf rubbings and creating frameable fruit and veggie prints. Learn what types of weather are vital for a healthy garden. Put on your Bee-utiful Bug Costume and flutter by the camp as you learn about one of a flower's favorite pollinators! Come see what the buzz is all about!

In the Adventure Sampler Camp, students will take day excursions involving outdoor adventures in and around St. Louis. In the Wilderness Skills Camps, activities may include: ropes course, fire making, atlatls, orienteering, team building activities, shelter construction, lashing, outdoor cooking, tracking, and more.

The LIGHT Creativity in Public Health Summer Camp is a 5-day program created to engage students entering 5th – 8th grade in the arts, creative writing, and public health through visual art, letter writing, poetry, and storytelling. Students will learn the importance and power of using creativity in science and health and will demonstrate this through their own written and artistic pieces that will be featured in LIGHT Magazine.
